Unique Program at Innisdale SS Combines Arts, Leadership and Community Connections

The IntegratedARTS program at
Simcoe County District School Board’s Innisdale Secondary School was established in 2003 as a way to give senior arts students the opportunity to create and explore their own arts specialty in an intensive and open environment. This four-credit program allows students in grade 12 to spend the entire semester working on art and leadership skills. IntegratedARTS offers a wide variety of career path opportunities, including visual artists, authors, dancers, photographers, film makers, multi-media artists and more.

In 2015, students presented the project titled From the Ground Up at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) with dance, music, paintings, and sculpture – all inspired by a patient’s journey through diagnosis and recovery, including those who may not heal. The Innisdale students were also motivated by a past student who was diagnosed with breast cancer, a mother that had passed from cancer and a teacher who is a survivor.

In October 2017, IntegratedARTS students held an interdisciplinary arts event and fundraiser at the Barrie Farmers’ Market. The event showcased dance and musical performances that highlighted the benefits of being healthy in body and mind. Students also sold a variety of miniature artworks, with 100 per cent of all proceeds benefitting the RVH Foundation. Learn more about this unique program at
