2018 Municipal and School Board Elections

Ontario’s future depends on parents, teachers, principals, supervisory officers, educational workers and an electorate that cares about our education system. That’s why the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association and the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association — along with L’Association des conseils scolaires des écoles publiques de l’Ontario and L’Association franco-ontarienne des conseils scolaires catholiques – have come together, through the Ontario Education Services Corporation, to create a website for the 2018 Municipal and School Board Elections that profiles school board trustee candidates in all 72 school boards across the province. Following the election, the website now features updated information for each school board’s elected and acclaimed Board of Trustees.

Ontario Road Safety Resource

This educational website is packed with learning tools and teaching aids that were developed based on a variety of grade levels. The site can be navigated by grade level or topic and includes lesson plans, posters, activities and games that can be used to engage children and youth.

Treaties Recognition Week

Treaties Recognition Week is the first week of November every year. In 2018, it’s happening from November 5 to 9. Treaties Recognition Week was introduced in 2016 to honour the importance of the province’s 46 treaties and to help Ontarians learn more about treaty rights and treaty relationships. The government’s Treaties website aims to educate Ontarians about the role treaties play in each of our lives and in our relationships with each other. Though they were signed more than a century ago, treaty commitments are just as valid today as they were then. Every Ontarian is a treaty person.

Trustee Professional Development Modules

The 20 professional learning modules for trustees and school boards included in this resource reflect the needs articulated by Ontario trustees for greater clarity on their roles as governors of school boards. In early 2018, OPSBA worked with the Ontario Education Services Corporation to release the 20th module, entitled “A Journey towards Truth and Reconciliation: First Nations, Métis and Inuit Trustee Professional Learning Module.” The full Trustee Professional Development Program, including the additional 19 modules, is available at www.ontarioschooltrustees.org. The website provides easy access to the learning modules, accompanying videos and resources along with search, read and print functions in English and in French.

Remembrance Day Resources

The peaceful society we enjoy has been partly created by the efforts and sacrifices of generations of Canadians who have put their lives on the line in the cause of peace and freedom around the world. Remembering all that they have done during times of war, military conflict and peace helps us to better understand our nation’s history and its future. Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) provides these resources for educators to help ensure that the torch of remembrance continues to burn brightly in the hearts of all Canadians. The VAC website also includes histories of the Canadian Armed Forces, Canadian contributions and sacrifices in warfare from the South African War to the Gulf War, memorials and information about various medals and decorations.
