OPSBA statement on school board fiscal oversight

6/4/2019

”Today’s news regarding the cancellation of a ‘Request for Proposal’ for new smartphones is an example of the strong leadership and fiscal oversight of the Toronto District School Board’s diligent trustees and staff. It is clear that the governance model of democratically elected school board trustee oversight ensures value for money for the students and families of Toronto. In fact, this speaks to the positive and fiscally responsible role that trustees across Ontario have in support of the two million students in publicly funded education.

We welcome the opportunity to meet with the Minister of Education or her staff at any time to discuss how school boards and the government can continue to work closely together in support of the best use of taxpayer dollars, in all aspects of our world-leading public education system. In the meantime, OPSBA will continue to strongly advocate for the government to provide stable public education funding that supports continuous achievement and well-being for all students.”
