OPSBA responds to
Phase 2 of the Ontario College of Teachers' Review of Teacher Qualifications
A key purpose of this comprehensive review is to examine how the preparation of new teachers and the continuing education of experienced teachers ensure that teachers have the skills and knowledge needed for the classrooms of tomorrow. Phase 2 focuses on education programs for experienced teachers and also seeks input on the Principal's Qualification Program and the Supervisory Officer's Qualification Program.
OPSBA's response addresses education programs that would support teachers in incorporating emerging education priorities into their professional practice and responding effectively to the changing needs and perspectives of children and youth in Ontario's classrooms today.
OPSBA also made suggestions aimed at improving the preparation of candidates for roles in education leadership, as principals and supervisory officers. These suggestions include an emphasis on knowledge of Special Education issues, experience in school-community relations and skills in building and inspiring school teams.
