Election Watch 2007 is an OPSBA service designed to keep member boards and all trustees informed on election issues and to provide resources to help boards and trustees inform their communities about those election issues related to education and children’s issues.

NEWS WATCH

This section will include links to relevant news items and other information. Materials may include election comments, party commitments, activities relating to the education sector and relevant media coverage of election activities that focus on education.  There will be information on Leaders’ debates and other election events.

REFERENDUM ONTARIO

In June 2005, the Ontario Legislature began a process to review electoral systems. In March 2006, the Citizens' Assembly on Electoral Reform, an independent body representing electors in Ontario, was created, They were asked to assess Ontario's current electoral system and different electoral systems, and recommend whether Ontario should retain its current system or adopt a different one. The Citizens' Assembly's proposal has resulted in this Referendum.

POST-ELECTION

OPSBA will continue to provide relevant and timely information on all post-election activities:  lists of MPPs with contact information, Cabinet information as it becomes available, critic portfolios, committee memberships, and other relevant resources.  Once the Legislature resumes, OPSBA will offer its daily legislative monitoring service. This is available in an email report upon request, as well as in Fast Reports Legislative Updates.
