Taking Mental Health to School
On Saturday September 25, 2010 Dr. Kathy Short from the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board presented to the OPSBA Board of Directors' meeting on "Taking Mental Health to School - Practice, Policy and Possibilities". This presentation provided everyone with a common understanding of the current needs and research underway in the area of children’s mental health. Ensuring that our children and youth have facilitated access to timely, integrated, responsive and equitable children’s mental health services in Ontario is a key priority of OPSBA.
Attached you will find Dr. Kathy Short’s PowerPoint presentation and information on the School Based Mental Health and Substance Abuse Consortium project which will provide practical and applicable information for school boards. Below you will find links to policy ready research papers from The Provincial Centre of Excellence for Child and Youth Mental Health, an article written for the CODE Chronicles on this topic as well as the outstanding video which was shown at the OPSBA’s Board of Directors’ meeting.
