Call for Policy Resolutions & Constitutional Amendments

POLICY RESOLUTIONS — Submission deadline: Friday, April 1. The deadline for OPSBA member boards to submit policy resolutions for consideration by the general membership at the 2011 OPSBA Annual General Meeting is April 1. Policy resolutions from member boards that are passed at the AGM are incorporated in the work planning that takes place over the summer and are aligned with the action framework to achieve OPSBA's priorities for the year ahead.

Poverty

OPSBA has a record of advocacy for the role of schools in responding to the needs of the whole child and their readiness to learn.  Success in school should be within the reach of every child and we are aware that living in poverty can have far reaching implications for a child's readiness to gain from the learning experiences in the classroom.  Going into the 2008-2009 school year, OPSBA has given prominence to poverty reduction in its priorities for action.

Legislative UPDATE

The Legislative Assembly of Ontario rose for summer break on Tuesday, June 11. The last order of business was the budget bill, Bill 65, Prosperous and Fair Ontario Act (Budget Measures), 2013, which passed at third reading with Liberal and NDP support (Ayes 64; Nays 36). The legislature is adjourned until September 9 at 10:30 a.m. The Standing Committee on Justice Policy will continue to meet throughout the summer, mainly in August, to continue its probe into the relocation of the Mississauga and Oakville gas plants.
