On October 26th, OPSBA President Colleen Schenk and VPs Catherine Fife and Riley Brockington presented to the Standing Committee on Social Policy regarding Bill 177.

School boards' backers blast 'achievement' reform; Advocates fear takeover if student scores lag

Teachers, trustees and parents say they fear changes being proposed by the province could let Queen's Park take over a school board whose test scores aren't high enough.

Quest 2009, "The Quest for Improved Student Achievement: Designing and Building Cultures for Deeper Learning," will be held from November 18 to 20 at the Sheraton Parkway Hotel in Richmond Hill. This conference is sponsored by the York Region District School Board and the Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat of the Ontario Government.

On Friday, November 20, Hicks Morley Hamilton Stewart Storie LLP will present its 2009 School Board Conference at the Holiday Inn Select (Toronto Airport). This full-day event will address a wide variety of labour, employment and education law subjects such as attendance management, human rights and accommodation, hot new arbitration and court decisions, pandemic planning, complex teacher dismissals, Bill 177, safe schools, EA work refusals and much more.
