Well Aware Series Supports Mental Health Issues

A new series of Canadian children’s books has been released that tackles issues of mental health and wellness. Written for students in grades 4 through 8, the titles in the Well Aware series are accompanied by teacher resources written by experts in children’s mental health. A companion book, Well Aware: Developing Resilient, Active, and Flourishing Students, by Dr. Patrick Carney, is reviewed in this issue (page xx).

Ontario Teachers’ Federation Acquires Financial Curriculum

Starting in September, parents, students and educators wishing to improve their financial literacy will find a wealth of material through the Ontario Teachers’ Federation website. The resources, recently acquired from the Ontario Securities Commission, are aligned with the Ontario curriculum but reflect material relevant to all Canadians. Information can be found under the Learning tab on the home page.

Teens 101 Focuses on Youth Mental Health

In July, Canamedia, an independent Canadian production company, announced that it is producing a new, interactive television program focusing on mental health and wellness issues for teens and young adults. Teens 101 is a 13-week television program featuring young people who have successfully dealt with mental health challenges; it will be supplemented with classroom lesson plans and other multimedia support. A number of partners are involved in the project, including the Halton branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association. Release dates were not available at the time of writing.
