Ontario’s education funding gap continues to grow
Since the height of the pandemic, per pupil funding has been trending down every year, further widening the growing gap in funding for public education. Funding, when adjusted for inflation, now sits at $11,506.03, a gap of $776.41 per student.
OPSBA statement on the new OYAP FAST program
School boards recognize there is a need for more students to pursue opportunities in the skilled trades as part of a modernized secondary school program.
New Scholarship! The Healthy Democracy Student Leadership Award
The Healthy Democracy Student Leadership Award, new for 2024, is a partnership between the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA), and is being awarded in the amount of $1,000 to one graduating English public school student in each of OPSBA’s five regions. Scholarship recipients are students of strong leadership skills and potential, who care deeply about their communities and furthering their own learning.
OPSBA statement on the release of 2024-25 Core Education Funding
Just like inflationary impacts on families and businesses, all costs in school board budgets continue to rise. As our members have not seen a corresponding increase in funding, there will undoubtedly be an impact on school board operations.
OPSBA welcomes federal announcement of National School Food Program
The Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA) is extremely pleased to see the federal government’s investment of $1 billion over five years to support a new National School Food Program. OPSBA has been advocating for this much-needed investment for years, since it was initially mentioned in the 2019 federal budget. We are hopeful that the Ontario government will move quickly and collaboratively to ensure the positive impacts of this program can be felt as early as the start of the next school year.

“Since its inception, OPSBA’s Black Trustees’ Caucus (BTC) has been advocating for this enhancement to Ontario’s curriculum and we are thrilled it has come to fruition. The minister has said it before, and BTC strongly affirms, Black history is Canadian history.”
