About the Award
Purpose
To recognize and celebrate students in Ontario’s public schools who have demonstrated outstanding achievement, growth, or contribution through a variety of learning pathways. This includes, but is not limited to, trades and apprenticeships, special education programs, alternative education, entrepreneurship, the arts, co-operative education, Indigenous education programs, or community service initiatives.
Terms of Award
Criteria
- The student has demonstrated commitment, growth, or excellence in a learning pathway (e.g., Specialist High Skills Major [SHSM], Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program [OYAP], arts-based program, community engagement, life skills or transition program)
- Achievements may include certifications, projects, performances, community initiatives, or personal milestones
- The student has shown resilience, adaptability, or determination in pursuing their pathway
- Consideration is given to students who have overcome personal, social, or systemic challenges to reach success
- The student’s pathway success has positively impacted their school or community through leadership, service, mentorship, or advocacy
- The student has demonstrated creative thinking, entrepreneurial spirit, or leadership within their chosen pathway
- Reflects OPSBA’s priorities around equity, inclusion, student well-being, and public education excellence
Nomination Information Checklist
Eligibility
- Secondary students enrolled in an Ontario English public school
- Students must be nominated by an educator, administrator, or guidance counsellor
- Nominees should demonstrate success or growth through at least one non-traditional learning pathway
- Students from all regions, backgrounds, and abilities are encouraged to be nominated
