About the Award

Purpose

Recognizes former Ontario school board trustees who, after completing their trustee service, have continued to make exceptional and lasting contributions to the advancement of public education in Ontario or beyond. This award celebrates the enduring impact of educational leadership and civic engagement, highlighting the influence trustees can have on shaping policy, equity, accessibility, and innovation in public education.

Criteria

  • Demonstrated leadership or advocacy in public education after their tenure as a trustee
  • Impact may be through policy development, public office, community engagement, academic research, non-profit leadership, or educational innovation
  • Contributions may have local, provincial, national, or international significance
  • Evidence of measurable outcomes, influence, or advancement of public education
  • Championing initiatives that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in education
  • Maintains a strong record of ethical leadership, integrity, and commitment to public service values
  • Serves as a role model for current trustees, education leaders, and youth

Eligibility

  • Must be a former school board trustee in the province of Ontario
  • Must be at least one full term removed from trustee service
  • Must have made significant, ongoing contributions to public education post-trusteeship
  • Nominees may hold or have held public office (e.g., MPPs, Ministers of Education, or Premiers) or leadership positions in sectors that influence educational outcomes
