Hamilton school board breaks living wage pledge

Hamilton’s public school board says it can no longer fulfil a 2013 commitment to provide all employees a living wage because their pay is now bargained provincially.
Associate director Matthew Gerard said Hamilton’s living wage rose to $19.05 per hour last November, up from $17.20, leaving 165 occasional unionized workers short of the benchmark. On Monday, the Ontario Living Wage Network, which sets the Hamilton rate, boosted it further to $20.80 an hour.
