“Improving student achievement in mathematics is complex. It needs to be done with consideration for ensuring that there are appropriate resources, that there is solid professional development, and that instruction is targeted to the unique needs of each student, along with other considerations. With regard to professional development, it is good to see there will be virtual training and a digital platform provided for teachers, principals and other school board staff.
We know this is a challenging time to release a new mathematics curriculum, however all stakeholders want our students to have the tools they need to succeed. OPSBA will be reviewing the full curriculum, focusing on critical concepts and skills, and look forward to working with the ministry and our member school boards on implementation.
We are confident that the students and staff of Ontario’s world class public education system will rise to this challenge.”
