Indigenous youth have powerful voices — and senators want to hear them!

The Senate Committee on Indigenous Peoples is excited to launch Voices of Youth Indigenous Leaders 2023 to spotlight the strengths of Indigenous communities and their inspirational young leaders. This annual event invites First Nations, Métis and Inuit youth from across the country to meet directly with senators in Ottawa.

The theme for this year’s event is Indigenous education. The committee wants to learn about the educational experiences of young Indigenous leaders, any barriers they faced and their visions for improving education systems.

To apply, Indigenous youth leaders aged 18 to 35 are invited to submit a 500-word reflection on their educational experiences that will inform the committee’s work and may be published on the Senate’s website.

Some participants will also be invited to attend an official committee meeting in Ottawa on June 6 and 7, 2023, to highlight their leadership efforts. The deadline for submission is Monday, April 10, at 2:59 a.m. EST.
