Canadian Parents for French
This non-profit organization was founded in Ottawa in 1977 to provide better access to French-language instruction for local English-speaking students. It now has offices in all provinces and offers French-as-a-second-language programs and support to thousands of young Canadians.
The Web site contains a wide variety of resources for parents, students and educators. Research reports are available online for download; most are free of charge but there is a minimal cost for some items. Promotional gift items are available as well for a modest cost.
We Inspire Futures
This new Web site launched by Nelson Education is a resource for Canadian teachers. Still in beta at the time of writing, it aims to become an online community where teachers can read timely news briefs, post commentary via social media and gather ideas from their peers. A newsletter is available. The site is attractively laid out, and users can navigate through it with ease. The Web site was launched on October 5, 2012, to commemorate World Teachers’ Day.
Youth Summit on Financial Literacy

In November, close to 600 high school students in the Greater Toronto Area participated in the first annual Financial Literacy Youth Summit. Sponsored by the Investor Education Fund, the event was one strategy that this non-profit organization has developed to help schools teach students financial literacy. The fund also hosts a Web site featuring a variety of resources for students and teachers, including educational videos and grade-specific lesson plans.
The Investor Education Fund was created by the Ontario Securities Commission and offers a companion Web site for consumers at www.GetSmarterAboutMoney.ca.

Online Games for Kids
A good collection of free online activities for children up to age 11 is available at www.tvokids.com, the children’s area of the main Web site of Ontario’s public television broadcaster. There is a wide variety of child-friendly content – games, interactive activities, apps and videos – all well organized under the drop-down tabs. The educational games are further categorized by age and theme, whether it is math, science, music or arts and crafts, and listed alphabetically for easy access. Apps, found under the Download tab, are cross-referenced by device.
